The Australian Turkish Chamber of Commerce has formalised a partnership with the Giresun Chamber of Commerce through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the World Chambers Congress (ICC) visit held in Australia. This agreement underscores a shared commitment to strengthening trade and investment opportunities between Australia and Türkiye.
The MOU was signed at the residence of the Melbourne consul general of the republic of Türkiye by Mr Hasan Çakırmelikoğlu, Chairman of the Giresun Chamber of Industry, together with Attila Ceylanbas, Chairman and Bekir Kilic, MAICD, Co-founder and Board Director of the Australian Turkish Chamber of Commerce.
The signing was also attended by His Excellency, Ufuk Gezer, the Turkish Ambassador to Australia, Mr Doğan Isik, Turkish Consul General Melbourne, M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), Natalie Suleyman MP Government of Victoria, Hazal Oğuz Sarıkaya, Commercial Attaché and other distinguished guests.
The province is well connected by railways, highways, and airways, enhancing its role in domestic and international commerce. The primary business in Giresun Province is undeniably hazelnut agriculture and its associated processing and export industry. This sector underpins the local economy, with supporting roles from forestry, diversified agriculture, fishing, and growing contributions from tourism and innovative farming.
Giresun’s geographical importance lies in its Black Sea coastal position with a key port, its role as a gateway from the coast to Central Anatolia via valleys and passes, and its unique agricultural suitability that makes it the heart of Türkiye’s hazelnut trade. Its location along the Black Sea highway also positions it as a regional trade corridor between western Black Sea cities and the Caucasus.
Under the agreement, both chambers will work collaboratively to explore and advance practical opportunities that foster stronger commercial ties.
